ABOUT US
The women in the paintings are discovering their character and agency free from the complicated narrative of American and African American history. The use of materials such as decorative papers, gold leaf, and paint in work lends a delicacy to the form yet conveys the illusion of boldness and confidence.

I have always had a deep respect for Black women and their ability to persevere. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to see beauty in the women that are portrayed in this work as they overcome obstacles along their journey and fortify themselves. Observing this journey has led me on a quest to honor Black women through a creative process. As I keep them, I am also learning from these women what it means to challenge the notion of universal beauty-making room for women of color who may often feel as though they are not seen or heard.
